College Magazine Covers - LIIAR Analysis

Teri Juarez on the Cover of the NCAA's Champion Magazine
Language- The main story line can be related to the masthead as it may be saying that the girl is a champion. We know she has done something good to do with basketball because she is proudly smiling while holding and being surrounded by basketballs. The girl is centred in the middle of the cover which suggests the main article in the magazine is about her.The heading for this story is also the largest print which means there will be a longer article about the story, rather than the other smaller articles which are written in a smaller font.
Institution- The institution that the magazine will represent is NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association).
Ideology- This magazine cover separates itself from the norms in schools and colleges that sports is for boys. As the girl is surrounded by basketballs it suggests that sport is her main focus. The masthead also tells the audience that if they go to this sport college they will be a 'Champion' and do well there.
Audience- The target audience for this magazine is college students and those interested in college sport. This is represented through the sub heading of some of the articles featured in the magazine and the main picture of basketballs. We also know this is targeted at younger people as the girl is the main subject and is quite young herself.
Representation-The magazine only uses four colours so it doesn't look manic and therefore the audience will be more willing to read it.

Language-  As the model is covering part of the masthead, it could suggest that the college focuses most on the students to make sure they do their best.
Institution- The institution that this magazine represents is the college.
Ideology- The main sell-line of the magazine tells the audience that the college has students that are set for a good future if they attend that college. A different font is used for the text 'Splat' because it is relevant to the subject of paint-balling. The layer the text is mounted is also relevant to paint-balling, making it an appropriate way to sell the advertisement.
Audience- The target audience for this magazine is young college students. This is shown by the young guy in the centre of the cover and various sell lines which are relevant to the target audience's lifestyle.
Representation- The magazine shows both aspects of the serious side of college work and the social side of being a college student. It does this by showing the guy holding books but having most of the sub headings around him being more relaxed. The guy is wearing a cross necklace which may be religious. This could also represent the idea of him being dedicated not only to that religion but to his studies as well. The main colours on the cover are black, yellow and white. The two lighter colours are used against the black background to make the masthead and sub heading appear bolder and more eye catching to the audience.
Language- The model is looking directly at the camera, this makes it seem as though she is relating to the audience which then entices them to read the magazine. The camera shot of the model is also a medium close up which allows space around her to be used for visible text.
Institution- The institution this magazine represents is college organisations.
Ideology- The masthead matches the colour of  the girl's t-shirt while the sell lines match the colour of price tag. This creates a colour theme and makes the cover look more attractive and easy to read.
Audience- The target audience for this magazine is college students, this is represented by the model in the centre of the cover.
Representation- Students are represented on this cover as being similar to the girl, she is also smiling which suggests she enjoys college.
